A What is an angel?

God has no need of his creatures, says the Koran . Instead the opposite seems obvious to me, otherwise it would explain why the Creator has given birth to the worlds created and inhabited. Three months in Afghanistan. Lived intensely, as a traveler of the past. Three months spent with the feeling of being invisible, though it is impossible to make such a country at war. Three months believed to be a secret agent or just a fool. Three months to capture the genius loci and tell without hesitation, taking the side of truth and denouncing the intrigues of power. Three months to paint a fresco varied, precise and incisive, a reality that we know in a superficial way, through the reportage of journalists embedded . Not to mention those hasty or liars. Three months to melt in the crucible of writing the many gems that Afghanistan has to offer to a patient observer, disillusioned and in love with life, wishing to make a gift to others the treasures received or discovered in the folds of time that has stopped.

These three months dedicated to the inimitable life - June, July and August 2010 - have finally become a book. Not a wise nor a novel, but a mosaic narrative that takes shape in accordance with its brightly-colored fabrics. In it are laid down as the happiest moments on the enamel and the despair that mark the life the Afghan people. Each tile is an illustration dry and documented but not aseptic.
